ANDREA CONTIN

1971, Padova, Italy. Lives and works in Milan.
ANDREA CONTIN, after initially studying in Venice, graduated in Painting from the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna. After first tackling issues related to Abstract Informalism, his interests shifted to aspects of Arte Povera while studying in Bologna. After completing his education, he developed his own firm conceptual framework for  handling the eclectic range of stylistic-formal tools characterising his work. Having moved to Milan, he came into contact with the city’s art milieu, taking part in important joint exhibitions and attracting the attention of the wider media and press. He has worked with a number of galleries, regardless of their particular position, taking advantage of the independency they have left him in developing his own work. An irreverent artist, he has created his own video clips, objects, installations and performances, designed along the conceptual lines of rigorous synthesis and irony. Contin’s work combines a powerful physical presence with an amusing and thought-provoking use of the body.  With lightness and profundity, he is not afraid to touch on issues and archetypes at the very foundations of life, such as death and struggle, either ritualistic or just to survive.
